Two men who allegedly broke and entered two stores and stole more than $1.3 million worth of items were refused bail when they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Alwyn Vanderstoop, called ‘Burty’, and Troy Heyliger pleaded not guilty to two counts of break and enter and larceny when the charges were read to them by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

It is alleged that on March 8 at Regent Street, Georgetown the duo broke and entered Jackie’s Super Centre carting off $1,164,000 of assorted items, property of Asif Razack. Further, it is alleged on the same date the men broke and entered a store adjoining Jackie’s Super Centre and stole $150,000 worth of items belonging to the owner Hugh October.

Vanderstoop and Heyliger denied stealing items from either business place. However, their failure to provide the court with a fixed address resulted in bail being refused.

The matter was transferred to Court Three where it would continue on March 24.
