The section of New Garden Street, between Church Street and South Road, will be renamed Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Mayor Hamilton Green said yesterday.
At the time of the announcement, Green was addressing those gathered at City Hall for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Mayor and City Council.
He said that an agreement was recently reached to rename that section of the street after the West Indies star batsman.
Green did not state when the name change will take effect.
It was only on Tuesday that Chanderpaul who will be playing on home soil today and on Sunday was awarded the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH) by President Bharrat Jagdeo during a function at State House. This is Guyana’s third highest award.
