A press release from the Guyana Police Force yesterday said that these persons “had apparently” not taken out road service licences owing to the fact that their motor vehicles had markings/drawings in breach of the law.
Thirty-five of the alleged defaulters were from `A’ Division – Georgetown and East Bank Demerara; 47 from `C’ Division – East Coast Demerara; 31 from `D’ Division and 12 from `E&F’ Division – Linden and Interior locations.
The police had announced last week that they would be intensifying operations in the enforcement of the laws in relation to the non-playing of music in public transportation vehicles while on a journey or parked on the roadway; the non-use of hand-held mobile phones while driving motor vehicles; the placing of markings/drawings on minibuses in contravention of the road service licence; and the fraudulent imitating of identification marks on motor vehicles (number plates) or certificate of registration.
Many vehicles have been impounded at various police stations.
