A 40-year-old accident victim is extremely grateful that he still has both his legs, after medical officials at the Georgetown Public Hospital reportedly began operating on the wrong leg instead of the injured one. Brazillian Joseph Da Silva was involved in an accident. The motorcycle he was riding overturned and resulted in him sustaining head injuries, a broken right leg in addition to other injuries to his body.
According to the man’s friend, who wished to remain anonymous, Da Silva was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Friday evening and was treated by a doctor in the Accident and Emergency Unit. The woman said that she was present as he was undergoing treatment and observed that the distracted doctor and his staff began “to drill” the man’s left leg instead of his injured right one. She said that the staff soon realized their mistake but this was only after they had drilled a tiny hole through the man’s foot. The woman said that as soon as the medical staff recognized their mistake they asked her to leave the room.
The woman said that she did not report the matter to any official at the hospital but said that she wanted the matter to be properly investigated. Da Silva himself is not very fluent in English.
The injured man is currently in the open ward recuperating.
