Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul was yesterday the recipient of a plaque and a house lot from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and Fazil Ramzan of Umana Developments Limited respectively.

Following his man of the match, unbeaten innings of 112 which steered the West Indies to 264-8 and a subsequent 21-run victory over England, Chanderpaul, who was also the recipient of the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH) from the Guyana government earlier this week, received the gifts from GCB president Chetram Singh and Alex Chanderpaul.

Present were executive members of the GCB and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Dr Julian Hunte and Chief Executive Officer Dr Donald Peters.

Prior to the presentation, Public Relations Officer of the (GCB) Terry Holder stated that the presentations were being done in honour of the batsman’s achievements on the field of play in 2008 when  he became  the number one ranked batsman in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) test rankings.

Ramzan stated that the house lot was being presented to Chanderpaul in honour of his dedication and sterling contribution to Guyana and West Indies cricket.

Ramzan, who is the developer of the Sara Johanna Gardens and Friendship Mews “Gated Communities”, also told the star batsman that he can choose his design as well as the specific location he would like to see his home erected, even if it means increasing the size of the house lot.

Chanderpaul thanked the donors for their generosity on behalf of his family and himself.
