Christopher Holder in a fighting finish snatched both the senior and junior titles of the second Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle road race held on Sunday last on the West Coast of Demerara from Wales Police Station to Bushy Park and back to the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Having finished fourth in the event’s first leg which was won by Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay, Holder who has been in fine form on the road this year, especially on the West Coast, recorded a time of 1:57:26 to be the first junior in the 50-mile event as well as the first among the seniors.
Daniel Ramchurjee, Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson, Tony Simon, Robin Persaud and Raymond Newton rounded off the top six positions behind Holder, with Ramchurjee and Geron Williams being the other two top finishers behind the overall winner in the junior category.
In the Veterans category, Kennard Lovell took the top position from Davendra Ramnarine and Shameer Baksh respectively while Walter Isaacs was the winner in the Veterans over-60 category.
Holder, Simons and Ramchurjee equally shared six of the eight prime prizes, while Williams and Jackson split the other two.
The cyclists will be back in the saddle on Sunday when they compete in the third and final leg in the Cinderella County of Essequibo.
