The 2009 Victory Valley Royals Inter-School Basketball Champion-ship which is scheduled to start tomorrow in Linden has received a significant boost to its growing list of individual awards with the donation of two pairs of Nike sneakers that will go to the two most valuable players of the finals.
Carlos Mendez, a co-worker of the tournament’s organizer Linden “Sancho” Alphonso made the presentation on Friday last after reading about the club’s effort via the club’s website www.victoryvalleyroyals.com.

According to Mendez, he felt honoured to be a part of such a vision and was glad to offer words of encouragement to the organizers.

The tournament which started in 2005 has become the breeding  ground for several of the community’s top players. Two of the most recent players who have gone on to do well after a good showing with their respective schools in the tournament are Orin Rose and Akeem Kanhai.

Mackenzie High school is the defending champion after stopping the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) in the finals last year. Kanhai came out as the top player of the tournament winning most of the individual prizes, including the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and finals and best offensive player.
