Berbice wicketkeeper/batsman Delbert Hicks was selected the 2008 Cricketer-of-the-Year for his club Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) and will be honoured when the 18th annual awards ceremony is held at J.C. Chandisingh Secondary on Sunday.
Hicks, who scored 1,063 runs at the first division level last year and had a further 53 dismissals behind the stumps, will receive over $200,000 worth of prizes at the ceremony which is slated to be the best awards ceremony ever that the club has held.
Other awardees include national players Assad Fudadin, brothers Royston and Esaun Crandon, female West Indies cricketer Erva Giddings, Berbice under-15 captain Shawn Pereira and national female cricket Shemaine Campbell.
According to a press release, a total of 36 awards valued at $1.5M will be handed over and Marketing Director of Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Wyston Robertson is expected to deliver the feature address.
