Georgetown led by an attractive 106 from Shaun Massiah, Transport Sports Club (TSC) were able to snatch first innings points from Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) when the two met in the first round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Cummings Electrical/Raymond Panday Memorial Second Division competition.
Replying to GNIC’s 173 all out, including K. Singh and T. Walton with 29 each, and M. Smith (26), D. Rajmangal (20) and C. Grimmond made 19 in support against the bowling of Y. Kissoon (4-37), Massiah (2-29) and S. Sam (2-27), TSC led by Massiah’s 106, reached 191-9 when play was called off.
Massiah struck 10 fours and three sixes during his knock as Walton with 4-34 and Rajmangal 3-39 tried desperately to keep their team in the match.
Action in this tournament will continue this weekend.
Berbice
With an ease in the weather, the West Berbice Cricket Association/Regency Suites/Buddy’s International Hotel sponsored under-23 competition semi-finalists were decided recently when Rainbow Generation lost to Bush Lot Sports Club by five wickets.
Rainbow Generation won the toss and were bowled out for 116 from 24 overs, with Sherwin Mc Pherson 54 and Glenroy Archibald 16, being the lone batsmen to reach double figures against the bowling of Krishendast Ramoo (3-12), Pooranauth Ganesh (3-30) and Khumash Ramkissoon 2-25.
In reply, Bush Lot needed only 23 overs to reach their target, although they lost five wickets in the process as Ramoo returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 54 while Anandeo Sooklall offered support with 29.
Mc Pherson and Joel Pereira took two wickets each for 28 and 30 respectively for Rainbow Generation.
Meanwhile, both D’ Edward A and Blairmont Community Centre teams were fined $500 each after they failed to submit their match reports in their game which was contested at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
In the semi-finals, Achievers will host Blairmont Community Centre while D’ Edward will play host to Bush Lot Sports Club this weekend.
