Ace Warriors’ Abzal Gafoor and Ishaka Jackman, along with Ghandi Youth Organization’s (GYO) Jonathan Alphonso stole the spotlight as the second round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Cummings Electrical/Raymond Panday Memorial second division competition continued yesterday.
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) batting first at the Guyana National Service ground were bowled out for a meagre 56.
Jackman led the rout with 6-32 while Clint Jones supported with 4-23.
Gafoor batted through his team’s innings before he was the last man out for a well played 97 in his team’s total of 206 and innings that included 12 fours and one six.
Clayton Halley supported Gafoor with 47 that were decorated with nine fours.
No bowling figures were available for MCYS, who reached 65-2 in their second innings and need a further 85 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
At the GYO ground, Alphonso steered his team to first innings points, with an impressive return of 7-15 against Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC).
After they won the toss and decided to take first strike, GYO were bowled out for 144 with Samuel Ward (26), Vijay Gangaram (25) and Jermaine Reynolds (23) the principal scorers.
Travis Walton (5-56) and Larry George (4-43) were the chief wicket-takers.
Jermaine Grovesnor scored an unbeaten 48 and was the only GNIC batsman to show any resistance to Alphonso and Davindra Deosarran who took 2-50.
GYO were 14-1 in their second innings.
At GNIC, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) took first innings points from their opponents Everest Cricket Club.
MSC dismissed GNIC for a paltry 102, of which M. Ramdeen (32) and Y. Singh (28) were the principal scorers
Altaf Habibullah bagged 4-18, Daniel Gravesande (3-5) and Carlos La Rose 2-7.
MSC in reply scored 164.
Habibullah returned to score an unbeaten 57 that was decorated with four fours, whilst Andre Burnett struck three sixes in his 32.
Azad Mohammed (3-24), Andrew Lovell (2-21), Dennis Mangroo (2-32) and Marlon Mangru (2-37) did the damage for Everest, who reached 16-1 batting a second time.
