Over 70 horses are down to compete in today’s horse racing meet at the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club at the Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice track.
Over $2M in prize money and trophies will be up for the taking in the eight-race card.
With five feature races and a track that is in excellent condition the going is expected to be very fast as usual.
The first feature race, the F&G Class, will be over a distance of 1200 metres.
The winner will receive $160,000 courtesy of sponsors Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and trophy from Rays Auto Sales.
The Gap, Basrah, Prospector’s Pride, Varadero and Face De Music are some of the main contenders for this event.
The B & Lower race sponsored by Banks DIH Limited has a first prize of $250,000 and a trophy, donated by Dr. Dwight Walrond Pet Clinic.
Local horses such as Jumbo’s Joy, Delmur Gold, Miss Republic and The Gap will throw down the gauntlet to American bred horses Annies Play Mate, Sweet Carmel, Sweet Southern Charm and Finally Jade.
Other events are the D&E Class over a distance of 1400 metres, the three years-old non-winners over 1200 metres and the three-years-old Open over a distance of 1400m.
