Fruta Conquerors and Alpha United both recorded their second wins of the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Banks Premium Beer Knockout Tournament at the Tucville Playfield Sunday to enter the semi-final round.
Led by a double from Fruta Conquerors’ Joel Lloyd who scored in each half, Fruta Conquerors registered a 3 – 1 victory over Uprising in the feature encounter of the evening while Georgetown Football Club (GFC) crumbled to Alpha 0-3 in the opening encounter.
Lloyd’s 41st minute goal was the first of the encounter and was scored from inside the 18-yard box from a play built up from mid-field.
Uprising equalized when Dexter `Dribbler’ Bentick wormed down the right flank while closely marked by a defender before thumping the ball past Oswald Cornette in goal.
The very next minute Lloyd displayed his terrific ball control skills and ran through the entire Uprising field from the kick off into the 18-yard box before sending a rocket-like shot net past custodian Keith Fraser.
Uprising seemed baffled by the play and could not recover from it. Fruta put the icing on the cake with a late goal to make it 3 – 1 at regulation time.
In the Alpha/GFC encounter things got moving early for Alpha after the energetic Elton Browne scored a 12th minute goal.
Alpha doubled the lead through a Leon Grumble goal in the 35th minute and tripled it compliments of a Dwight Archer strike two minutes into the second half.
