Reigning race walking champion Rudolph Mitchell continued his winning streak last Sunday when he copped the Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai’s trophy in a “Grow More Food” race organized by Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC).
The event commenced at La Bonne Intention (LBI) Guysuco Estate, proceeded along the Railway Embankment and ended at the entrance to the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
National middle distance athlete Jonathan Fagundes occupied the second position and Jeremy Cornelius was third.
Maurice Fagundes, Jonathan’s father, was first in the Veteran’s category with Brian Roberts and Debidyal Harold finishing second and third respectively.
Trophies and other prizes for the race walk were sponsored by Minister Sukhai, the New Guyana Marketing Corporation and Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) while the GSA provided refreshments after the event. Meanwhile, the CSTC will stage a 20-laps Easter Sunday event around the village of Melanie Damishana from 06:30hrs and Mitchell is the clear favourite to cart off the top prize once again.
