Rockaway XI and Zeeburg Warriors both stormed to two victories over their opponents on Sunday in the Guyana Softball League (GSL) organized Memorex Enterprise 15-Over Countrywide Tournament at the Ogle and Leonora grounds respectively.
Rockaway’s day began when they rolled over Bee Hive in their first encounter of the day by eight runs after batting first and being routed for a paltry 97 in 12 overs. They returned to skittle the opposition for 89 in 14.1 overs.
In Rockaway’s second match-up they took first strike again and rattled up a mammoth 230–3 in their allotted overs, being led by two sterling half centuries from Krishna Devers (70*) and Jagdesh Deosarran (71).
Roy Seebarran spearheaded the Rockaway attack taking 3–16 against Ogle Mandir who made 51 before being bowled out in 9.2 overs.
Zeeburg in their first match which began at 9:00am crushed Stewartville by a margin of 137 runs after batting first and reaching a score of 197 all out, led by a steady 53 from Yitesh Dhanpaul, while Ragunandan Narine took 4–16 for the opposition.
Dhanpaul took 4–7 to add to his half century while turning in a great all-round performance in Stewartville’s chase which ended at 60 in 9.2 overs.
Leonora Youths suffered a four-run loss at the hands of Zeeburg after falling short in chasing the 75 which Zeeburg had struggled to put up when they batted first.
In the Linden Zone of the tourney Sunrise SC defeated Uprising XI by 45 runs at the Christianburg ground on Saturday, and then Bad Boys XI defeated Blueberry Hills United by 17 runs the following day.
Meanwhile, West Watooka SC Genesis Plus and Uprising ‘A’ team recorded victories against Blueberry Hill and Nottinghamshire respectively at the West Watooka ground.
And at the Ogle ground Sleep In XI cooled off Hot Steppers by six wickets. Andy’s XI stunned Bee Hive by two wickets, Upsetters blasted the Rockets by 30 runs and Better Hope got the better of Kishan’s XI by two wickets.
Ariel’s XI and Farm Masjid both defeated Takers XI, while Trophy Stall XI thrashed Regal XI in the three matches that were contested at the National Insurance Scheme ground.
