Residents of La Penitence and surrounding areas will soon benefit from a new health centre, which will be partly funded by the US government through its military and the Guyana government through the Ministry of Health and the Guyana Defence Force.
According to a release from the Government Infor-mation Agency (GINA), the health centre will have modern facilities, including a laboratory and other services
The release said Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran told residents at a recent meeting at St Pius Primary School that the institution will provide basic public health services in an effort to provide affordable primary health care to the residents.
The centre will be built on Cemetery Road, which was selected because of the proposed size of the centre and the availability of land in the periphery.
The facility will service residents in East, West and North/East La Penitence.
And according to Lt Col Gary Beaton of Guyana Defence Force, the agreement between Guyana and the US also caters for the construction of two nursery schools and the US army will be financing the entire ‘New Horizon Porject’.
