-at GCB meeting

Amid a wretched regional performance, the national selection process is expected to be the topic of heated discussion at the executive meeting  slated for the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) boardroom tomorrow at 5 pm.

In a signed letter issued by presidents of the Berbice and Demerara Cricket Boards respectively, the two counties are seeking an urgent intervention in a matter they deemed to be of extreme importance to the nation’s cricket health and future.

Questions arising, according to the letter, include the position of former national middle order batsman Ravindranauth Seeram as selector and national coach, along with the leadership of skipper Travis Dowlin.

The letter which was signed by both Keith Foster and Bissoondyal Singh, the respective presidents of the Berbice Cricket Board and the Demerara Cricket Board, and issued to the media  reads:

“The hereunder County Boards hereby seek your urgent intervention in a matter of extreme importance regarding our nation’s cricket health and its future. This situation demands an immediate special Executive Meeting, as it is imperative that its consequences be halted and steps taken to correct the systemic decline.

“Over the past few months, we have witnessed the sorry debacle of our team’s performance in the extended WICB Regional tournament. Our performances have been dismal at best and even though we have changed the coach, the situation has not changed.

“At the last executive meeting of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB), it was unanimously agreed that we express our serious concern with this state of affairs and thus we hereby request an immediate review of the selection panel before this tournament ends.

“We are of the firm view that members of the executive should not serve in the position of manager, coach or even selector, neither should a selector serve as coach or manager or vice versa of any national team.

These positions are specialist positions and should be treated as such, a view the Berbice Cricket Board agrees on with us, hence we are requesting an immediate review of these conflicting situations.”

The letter also referred to disturbing reports about inter-personal relationships on the team.

Meanwhile, Stabroek Sport was reliably informed that the GCB is in receipt of this letter which is seeking a review of the selection policies and the selection panel.
