The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recently bestowed the Military Efficiency Medal (MEM) on Brazilian Military Attache Colonel Eudes Carvallho Dos Santos at a farewell luncheon hosted in his honour at the Officer’s Mess.
In a press release the army said the MEM was awarded “…for service of a high quality in facilitating a high and sustained level of interaction between the Armed Forces of the Federative Republic of Brazil (FRBAF) and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Guyana.” The award is granted to individuals who have rendered valuable service beyond the normal call of duty to the GDF and to those who have contributed to the strengthening of the army’s bilateral ties with other armies.
Army chief, Commodore Gary Best lauded Dos Santos’s work saying he truly deserved the national award. He said the profile of bilateral relations between the two militaries and the governments and peoples of Guyana and Brazil have been greatly enhanced by Dos Santos’s input. Best said too although he was returning to Brazil “there would not be a departure from all that was built during his sojourn here.”
