MHS still unbeaten

Defending champions McKenzie High School (MHS) remain unbeaten and on course to reclaim their title in this year’s Victory Valley Royals Inter-school basketball tournament after making light work of Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) 53-38 yesterday at the McKenzie Sports Club hard court in Linden.
With yet another star performance from junior national player Akeem Kanhai and the dependable Sheldron Noel, MHS had an unassailable 13-point lead at the end of the first half (27-14).
In the second half the defending champs turned up the pressure with Kanhai orchestrating most of the plays with solid support from his teammates who are steadily improving.
Kanhai finished with a game high 22 points while Noel had a well crafted 13 for the winners. For LFS who have fallen to the MHS for the second time in a row, Godfrey La Rose had 12 points while Marlon Persaud had nine.
With the win, MHS are now two for two after thrashing Wisburg Secondary 73-14 the previous day.
The Wismar-based school team lost this time to New Silver City Secondary 39-21. Although they showed much improvement from their last game, they are still the weakest link in the competition.
Marlon Pollydore enjoyed a fruitful day on the court, scoring a game high 18 points while Yanik Primo chipped in with 14 and for Wisburg, Maverick Angel and James Washington both shot seven.
Meanwhile the tournament will continue today with only one game which will see the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) facing the LFS.
