The National Masters League which got off to a terrific start last week continued on Tuesday evening with a scheduled double header that had Linden’s Top Class defeating Carib Masters while the Santos/Guyana Defence Force (GDF) encounter was called off.

Top Class gained three points after drilling Carib Masters 2–0 in a one-hour match on the evening that GDF did not show up owing to an internal matter the team had which was reported to the organizing committee and caused their game to be rescheduled.

According to reports, this is the most successful Masters tournament the country has had in recent times under the Interim Management Committee (IMC) which is being headed by former national captains Terrence Archer and Gordon Braithwaite and includes former national players and live wires in the football fraternity. Some 14 teams from Georgetown, East Coast, East Bank, West Bank of Demerara, Berbice and Linden will be competing against each other for the next few months and from this a squad will be picked to represent Guyana.

The short-listed team will represent Guyana in two matches at home against a Masters team from Barbados in June and may also accept the invitation to play in the CSU Nations Tournament in November. Action continues this evening with a double header commencing at 6:30pm that has Pele taking on GT All Stars and Rastafari Patriots challenging East Bank while on Saturday, West Bank Demerara will clash with Rosignol.

The Sunday morning double header which has the curtain raiser between Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and East Coast at 10 am will see Thomas United and BK Int’l Western Tigers competing against each other in the feature matchup.

All matches are being contested at the GFC ground.
