Police responded to a robbery attack at Grove, East Bank Demerara on Wednesday and confronted the bandits, but the men managed to escape with the stolen items after a failed chase.
An unlicenced 9 mm pistol which the bandits dropped was recovered by the police, who said three men carried out the attack, but only one was armed.
Beharry salesman Natram Nambudu was making a delivery at a business place at Second Street, Grove around 1.35 pm when the men pounced on him. He was held at gunpoint and stripped of $10,000, a cell phone and personal jewellery. He was also struck about the head with a firearm.
The police said they responded promptly to the report and found the men at the scene when they arrived. They gave chase, but failed to capture any of the three men.
