Wendell Goblin of Lot 14 Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on April 8 at King Street, Goblin had twenty-three grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
However Goblin’s lawyer, attorney-at-law Leslie Sobers stated that the incident was an unfortunate one for his client. He said that his client had returned from the USA several days ago “to visit his ailing father in Bee Hive.” He went to say that when his client was finished doing so, “his cousins were taking him around town” when the police searched the car that they were in and uncovered a “bag that didn’t belong to my client tucked under somewhere in the back seat”. He said that the police discovered that cannabis was concealed in it.
The lawyer informed the court that he was not making a bail application for his client but was asking for an early date for the commencement of his trail.
The prosecution then stated that the lawyer did not give the court any special reasons for bail to be granted and his facts on the matter differed from what the lawyer had told the court.
He said that the cannabis was found under the seat where Goblin was sitting.
The magistrate then ordered that Goblin be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on April 17.
