West Demerara hammered East Bank by eight wickets when play in the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) U-19 tournament continued yesterday at the Canal Number Two ground.
In a match that was reduced to 20 overs after shifting from its initial venue, the Wales Community Centre ground because of its unplayable state, West Demerara replying to East Bank Demerara’s total of 67 all out, raced to their target in just 13.2 overs, hitting 68-2.
For East Bank who slipped to their second defeat in as many matches, Jagdesh Bishun with 11 was their primary scorer.
Naveed Ally (3-16) and Kishan Shivgobin (3-19) wreaked havoc with the ball for the West Demerara side while Madha Dhanpaul (1-9) also did well.
After falling to tournament powerhouse Georgetown the previous day, the West Demerara batsmen knew that losing was not an option and as such, Doesh Sukhu (25 not out) and Vickash Dhaniram (28) did the damage with the bat to guide their side home.
