Dogs were tied in inhumane fashion

Dear Editor,

Prime News had a story about two dogs that were tied up in an inhumane way not too far from the GSPCA. The question is why did the society that has to protect animals allow such cruelty to these poor creatures? I am still suffering from nightmares after looking at the way the dogs had to be standing on two feet only as the leash was too short. What manner of beast can do this to animals is beyond comprehension. Why did the GSPCA which is just nearby do nothing to take the dogs out of their suffering?

Yours faithfully,
N.Bisnath

Editor’s note

We sent a copy of this letter to Honorary President of the GSPCA, Mr Oliver Insanlly, for any comments he might have wished to make, and received the following response: “Thank you for allowing the GSPCA to respond to letter writer, Mr N Bisnath.

“Through reports made by members of the public, the GSPCA was already aware of the plight of these particular animals as they were spotted on more than one occasion tied in a similar fashion. “As a result, repeated visits were made by the GSPCA. However, on all such occasions, requests by GSPCA inspectors to speak with the owner of the animals were unsuccessful as he was never available. This case was therefore attracting the continuous attention of the GSPCA as it was our objective to meet with the owner of the animals with the hope of affecting a more permanent solution.

“Upon investigating this most recent incident referred to, we found that these dogs were not only removed from the parapet where they were tied at the time of sightings, but they were also removed completely from the premises. The GSPCA will nevertheless continue its attempts to contact the owner and conduct further follow up investigations to ensure that a similar fate does not await these dogs at their new location.

“The GSPCA takes this opportunity to remind citizens that they should make reports of all forms of animal cruelty, including straying, directly to our Animal Clinic at Robb Street and Orange Walk, Bourda on 226-4237. All reports will be treated with confidentiality and acted upon expeditiously.”
