Winners Connection and host Net Rockers, as was expected, will face off in the finals of the Net Rockers Football Club Linden Town Week Under-19 football tournament today from 1600hrs at the Bayroc Community Centre ground..
Winners defeated Eagles United on penalty kicks while Net Rockers defeated Flamingo one nil in their respective semi-final matches on Sunday at the Bayroc Community Centre ground.
In their match-up against Eagles United, Winners Connection opened the score sheet courtesy of Owen Williams strike in the 11th minute while Sugar Ford also found the back of the net six minutes later, to give his team their second goal.
But the resilient Eagles didn’t allow that to break their spirit and responded with a Sherwin Waldron goal which was scored in the 30th minute, followed by a Kennard Simon equalizer two minutes later.
After an immense battle from the start of the whistle and with the game being deadlocked at 2-2, penalty kicks were the order of the day and that’s where Winners Connection prevailed after the Eagles’ Sherwin Williams shot went off target.
Host club Net Rockers on the other hand needled Flamingos as early as the 8th minute, thanks to Clarence Huggins, and held on to their lead to claim the victory as well as their place in the finals.
A three-a-side competition involving any eight teams wishing to participate, followed by the third place play off between Eagles United and Flamingo will precede the finals.
