GT&T commissioned another cellular site at Lethem recently in anticipation of an increase in the pace of development and in cross- border traffic once the bridge across the Takutu River is officially opened.
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph company said in addition to augmenting the service of a site it had previously commissioned in the area the new site will allow more villagers access to its service.
Villagers from St Ignatius and its environs including Kumu, Parashara and Nappi are accessing the network while more changes to the positioning of the antenna at the Lethem central site has resulted in coverage being extended to areas South/South East of the site including at Manari and Pirara.
GT&T said customers can continue to enjoy its wide range of services including the lowest rates across networks and connect to the internet via their handsets since GPRS functionality is in place.
Lethem, like Bartica, where a second cell site was also recently commissioned can boast of increasing economic and social development. It is in keeping with their growing status that GT&T has invested in increased cellular capacity in these communities.
