The Linden Technical Institute (LTI) remains unbeaten while the Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) bounced back, the latest teams to record victories in this year’s Victory Valley Royals inter-school basketball championship in Linden.
Playing at the McKenzie Sports Club hard court yesterday, LTI swept past New Silver City secondary 39-30 while LFS demolished the Christianburg Wismar Secondary (Multi) 54-35.
Both schools were made to fight hard for their respective victories.
At half time in the opening clash, LFS held a slim eight-point lead at half time (29-21) but found some fuel from their two leading players Jeffrey La Rose and Theodore Tappin who combined to score 43 points out of their school’s total score of 54.
La Rose had 22, while Tappin scored 21 and for Multi Quacy Rice scored 12 and Clement Ogle, nine. The win was redemption for the Amelia’s Ward-based secondary school that had already lost two games in the tournament as compared to Multi who are yet to taste a victory.
Meanwhile Orin Rose turned in another top class performance scoring 22 points to guide LTI home against New Silver City Secondary after trailing 29-21 at half time.
LTI who is among the favourites along with MHS for the title, found a new gear feeding off the offensive run by Rose in the second half to come away with the win and maintain its unblemished record so far in the competition.
LTI will be looking to continue that form when they meet Wisburg Secondary who are at the bottom of the table today.
Also, defending champions McKenzie High School (MHS) will face the struggling Multi in the second game.
