Deosarran, Ricky Singh blast tons
Former national Under-19 batsman Krishna Deosarran blasted his way to a pugnacious 196 to help Rockaway XI defeat Kishan XI, when action continued in the Guyana Softball League (GSL)/Trophy Stall sponsored 15 overs-a-side competition held over the weekend.
Rockaway batted first and scored a massive 274-2 from their 15 overs, due to Deosarran’s exploits with the bat.
Meanwhile, Ricky Singh stroked his way to 101 for Kishan’s XI, though they failed to get past their opponents. Masood Khan took 2-42 for Kishan XI which scored 182 -6 in 15 overs with Singh emulating Deosarran with his 101. Jagdesh Deosarran also scored 2-18.
In the other matches Superstreet XI defeated Zeeburg Warriors by a 13 runs. Superstreet won the toss and batted; making 86 all-out in 13.5 overs. Zaheer Khan was the principal scorer with 15 while Avenash Yugnauth took 4-15.
In reply Zeeburg Warriors made 75 all-out in 9.5 overs. Deodat Persaud made 27, Salim Khan 5-20 and Neil Persaud 3-15 bowling their team to victory.
The results from Zone C: East Coast Demerara are as follows
Sleep Inn XI defeated the Hot Steppers by 6 wickets. Hot Steppers batted first and made 125 all-out in 15 overs. Andy Munilall made 28 against the bowling of Vishal Takeram who took 2-7 for Sleep Inn XI. The victors returned with 126-4 from 13.5 overs with Nandalall Narine making 32.
Rockaway XI defeated Bee Hive XI by 8 runs. Rockaway XI batted first and scored 97 all-out in 12 overs with Jagdesh Deosarran notching up 28. Omar Seeram took 4-9 for Bee Hive XI who was bowled out for 89 in their reply from 14.1 overs. Dave Persaud top-scored with 23 and Richard Gomes took 2-7.
Andy XI defeated Bee Hive XI in their second match by 2 wickets. Bee Hive XI batted first and scored 102 all-out in 15 overs of which Lloyd Rooplall notched up 51 and Sean Harrinarine took 2-24.
Meanwhile, Sohan Ragnandan took 2-15 for Andy XI who replied with 103-8 in 13.3 overs. The team was led by Chris Deonarine’s 58.
Kishan XI defeated Bee Hive XI by 5 runs. Kishan batted first and scored 146-7 in 15 overs. Asif Ali made 46 and Lloyd Rooplall 2-20. Bee Hive XI then fell short by five runs; scoring 141-9 in their 15 overs. Rooplall returned with the bat scoring score 40 while Devanand Persaud, 30. They were the leading scorers against the bowling of Ricky Singh who claimed 4-24.
In their second match Bee Hive XI defeated Upsetters XI by 5 wickets. The Upsetters were inserted and scored 116 all-out in 15 overs: Zahir Persaud 37 and Lloyd Rooplall 3-20. In reply Bee Hive XI made 117-5 in 11.5 overs: Imran Haniff 36; Devanand Persaud 32 and Vishwanauth Jeewan 2-13.
Zone D: Linden
Genesis gained a walkover from Blueberry Hill United then they defeated Bad Boys XI by 7 wickets in their second match. Bad Boys XI won the toss and batted scoring 109 all-out in 15 overs with De Noceon contributing 20. Marvin Bell took 3-20 from three overs for Genesis XI who replied with 116-3 in 12.3 overs. Hamesh Mohan’s 35 led the team to victory.
Meanwhile, in their second match Bad Boys XI defeated West Watooka SC by 8 wickets. West Watooka was inserted and was shot-out for a paltry 50 in 13 overs. Only Clayton Prince who made 14, reached double figures as Wayne Williams grabbed 4-8 for Bad Boys who scored 51-2 from six overs in reply. De Noceon returned with the bat to score 19 while Prince displayed his all-round ability by claiming 2-17 with the ball.
Genesis XI, Bad Boys XI and West Watooka all ended their preliminary rounds on the same points and will battle for two spots to take on Georgetown teams Regal XI and Trophy Stall XI in the knockout stage.
