The Government of Guyana has issued a statement correcting a misleading headline in Thursday’s edition of the Kaieteur News.
The statement is in response to an article captioned `Government promises criminal probe into CLICO, Globe Trust’.
The release said that “Contrary to what is suggested in the headline, His Excellency did not promise a criminal probe. Instead, he indicated that his Government would be willing to conduct an investigation along the lines suggested by the Leader of the Opposition, as long as the scope of the investigation is not confined only to the CLICO issue but is expanded to include Globe Trust issue as well.”
The Government further said that it “believes strongly that the difference, which might appear to be subtle, is important if the President’s comments are to be reported accurately”. The statement called for an appropriate correction to be made by the newspaper.
