The Private Sector Com-mission (PSC) has condemned Thursday’s shooting of Commissioner of Insurance Maria van Beek which it described as a “cowardly attempted murder”.
The PSC in a statement yesterday pointed out that van Beek was appointed Judicial Manager in the wake of the CLICO debacle and was charged with the responsibility of determining the best course of action in helping to resolve the company’s difficulties to minimise the possible losses to the company’s policyholders.
“The shooting of Mrs van Beek is a reprehensible attempt to pervert the sterling work which she is doing as the Judicial Manager of CLICO and the commission expresses the hope that the authorities will leave no stone unturned in seeking the perpetrators,” the statement said.
The commission called upon the law enforcement agencies and all civic-minded citizens to use all means possible to bring to justice the perpetrators of this crime.
The PSC wished van Beek a speedy recovery.
