Dear Editor,
The dastardly attempt on the life of Ms Maria van Beek should be condemned by all in Guyana. But because we are so polarised in Guyana, I think it matters not when some are affected. Savagery is allowed to reign depending on which person is the recipient. When the voices of reason and justice are raised, there is an onslaught to silence them.
No right-thinking person can justify Ms van Beek’s shooting. Somewhere in this country someone knows something about this attempted assassination; the government and the police should not let this crime go without being solved. Too many unsolved crimes are the order of the day, such as Alicia Foster and Monica Reece.
In many countries, the Human Rights Commission and other interest groups would have condemned this cowardly act on her life.
Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
