CAPE TOWN, South Africa, CMC – All-rounder Dwayne Bravo’s had a sedate start to his Indian Premier League campaign but his Mumbai Indians still managed to make a winning star to the glitzy, multi-million dollar Twenty20 tournament yesterday.
Bravo, ruled out of West Indies’ two-Test tour of England through lack of fitness, scored just five and took one for 27, playing a little or no role in Mumbai’s 19-run win over the Chennai Super Kings at Newlands.
Sent in to bat, Mumbai posted 165 for seven from their allotted overs with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar cracking 59 not out.
Bravo was part of a collapse which saw Mumbai lose three wickets for 20 runs in quick time, slipping to 102 for four in the 15th over.
In reply, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden smashed a top score of 44 but Chennai could only muster 146 for seven.
Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga was the leading bowler with three for 15.
West Indies captain Chris Gayle will be in action on Sunday for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Deccan Chargers who have West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards and discarded all-rounder Dwayne Smith in their ranks.
