Dear Editor,
Stabroek News is misrepresenting what is happening in Guyana with its Saturday, April 18 title ‘AFC alleges political oppression.’ This misleading headline has to be deliberate. Nothing in the AFC’s advertisement was misrepresented, untrue or unproven. Stabroek News knows this too. If nothing can be refuted then it is not an allegation. Truths and facts are not allegations.
In addition to the AFC’s advertisement there are numerous reports and proven incidents of oppression under the President Jagdeo government. There is hard evidence in the United Nation’s report of Gay McDougall, the Ethnic Relations Commission reports submitted to Parliament, the Guyana Trades Union Congress and Critchlow Labour College complaints, the PNC complaints, Justice for Jermaine, the Mark Benschop incarceration and the refusal of the PPP dominated Parliament to pass the Ancestral Bill.
Stabroek News has been freed of the government’s oppression with the return of taxpayers’ dollars to its advertising section. Many are yet to be emancipated and continue to have their tax dollars used against them.
If the evidence outlined is irrefutable, then Stabroek News has to advise what is its definition of oppression.
Yours faithfully,
Osafo Modibo
