Dear Editor,
The Guyanese public is constantly apprised of the mundane news of low-level airport, customs, other civil service employees and drug mules being arrested for drug trafficking. This news is presented at press conferences, in special media bulletins and press releases with dramatic flair and fanfare as if really something of substance is being communicated to the public.
Narcotic trafficking is a fact of life in Guyana. The people are acutely aware of its presence. There is an expectation that those individuals performing the grunt work will be caught now and then.
Now, if the police and government start targeting high-level drug lords and start making arrests, that will be considered an example of real exciting news. The current charade of parading the low-level workers in the news is becoming tired and ragged. It is time the government and the police start delivering the key players.
Yours faithfully,
