-Guyana settles for third with seven medals
Team Guyana had to settle for third overall at this year’s Caribbean Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships which concluded on Friday at the Marriott Dome in St Kitts.
They were dethroned by Puerto Rico who won the 15 years and under boy’s and girl’s titles and the 18 years and under boy’s and girl’s titles in the process, while Jamaica took second.
Guyana finished with a tally of seven medals: two silver and five bronze, after local players Trenace Lowe, Adeille Rosheuvel could only reach the semifinal round of their singles competition while Nigel Bryan, Chelsea Edghill and Denzel Duff fell in the quarterfinals.
Brandon Baldie, Samuel Fraser, Dillon Mahadeo and Akeicia Nedd made their exit in the last sixteen and Stephan Patoir and Kyle Edghill reached the round-of-32.
Lowe won her quarterfinal in the Girls’ Under-18 before going out in the semi final to Lizette Maldonado of Puerto Rico 3-4 and in the 15 years and under Adeille Rosheuvel went out in the semifinal to Zoe Rivera also of Puerto Rico 3-4.
In the boys 18 years and under category Bryan was no match for Manuel Adorno as he only managed to win one set against the Puerto Rican going down 1-3 (6-11, 11-4, 10-12 and 9-11) and first day hero Denzel Duff who toppled some of the Caribbean’s best racket wielders in the group stages of the 15 years and under category, could not continue his form, in the singles, falling to Puerto Rican Brandon Echevarria 11-9, 3-11, 6-11 and 6-11(1-3).
Guyana’s Chelsea Edghill also went down to Puerto Rican Thalia Lopez 13-11, 6-11, 8-11 and 4-11 (3-1).
In the 18 years and under round–of-16, Denzil Hopkinson was beaten by Jamaican Simon Tomlinson in straight sets (3-11, 6-11, 9-11) and teammate Brandon Baldie then lost to another Jamaica Kareem Flowers three games to one(5-11, 8-11 and 9-11) after failing to repeat his first set performance.
Samuel Fraser lost to Trinidad and Tobago’s Aaron Wilson in similar fashion (11-8, 14-12, 4-11 and 11-7) and teammate, Dillon Mahadeo fell to Puerto Rican Xionel Feliciano in straight games (9-11, 6-11 and 8-11). Also losing without winning a game was Akeicia Nedd. She was beaten by another Puerto Rican Daniely Rios (11-6, 11-4, and 11-2).

5. 15 years and under girls singles – Adeille Rosheuvel
And two silver medals
15 years and under boy’s teams – Samuel Fraser, Stephan Patoir, Denzel Duff and Dillon Mahadeo
15 years and under girl’s doubles – Adeille Rosheuvel and Chelsea Edghill.
