NAIN, Jamaica, CMC – Jerome Taylor has declared himself fit to take his rightful place in the West Indies team on their current tour of England.
The West Indies fast bowler made a return to the playing field for St. Elizabeth against Hanover in a Jamaica Super League match on Sunday at Alpart Sports Club.
This follows an Achilles tendon injury that has sidelined him, since the fourth Test of the England tour of the Caribbean.
“As far as I am concerned, I am fit enough to play cricket. I bowled nine overs on the trot (broken by lunch) and I came back and bowled later and there was no pain or discomfort so now I am just looking forward to the tour of England” Taylor told the Jamaica Observer newspaper.
Taylor consulted with Dr. Akshai Mansingh, head of the West Indies Cricket Board’s medical panel, and will visit him again before departing for England in a week’s time.
The Observer reported that Taylor bowled opener Kennar Lewis with his second delivery which curled past the outside edge to hit off stump, and his third and fourth deliveries lifted sharply from just short of a length to strike Hanover’s overseas pro Kurt Wilkinson of Barbados on the arm – influencing the umpires to offer bad light.
St. Elizabeth got first innings points against Hanover, who laboured to 152, in reply to the home team’s 208 with Taylor taking one for 17.
