Please refer to a letter in your newspaper of April 13, 2009, captioned ‘Queenstown road blocked by sand.’Mr Peter D Bouchard is quite right about the negative conditions which exist at the corner of Crown and Oronoque Streets.
Our information is that the owner of that property had submitted a building application and was awaiting the appropriate approval from the City Engineer. As such, he did not get any permission from the City Engineer to store building materials on that parapet as prescribed by the Municipal and District Councils Act Chapter 28:01.
On several occasions the building inspector for that ward, visited and warned the contractor to cease all building works and remove all building materials from the city’s parapet and pavement on that corner. This was followed up by a letter issued today, April 21, 2009, instructing the contractor to remove all materials from that parapet. If the contractor fails to comply within the next 24 hours than he will be prosecuted by the Mayor and City Council.
To Mr Bouchard and all the other residents, we say that we regret the inconvenience caused by this illegal storage of building materials on the parapet and pavement in this area. We have taken action. Therefore, they can look forward to a change in the state of affairs at that corner.
