BOSTON, CMC – Usain Bolt is expected to be the guest-of-honour, when Puma, the German sports gear manufacturer and one of his main sponsors, hosts its first-ever Street Meet on Fan Pier in this American city on Sunday April 26.
The Street Meet mixes the atmosphere of a Jamaican street carnival with the excitement of street running.
“The focus is to broaden the outreach of track and field,” said Antonio Bertone, Puma’s chief marketing officer.
He added: “We’re taking it outside the track. We are bringing it to the street, and making it tangible to the people.”
The Street Meet, which will feature Jamaican food and entertainment, will take place against the backdrop of Puma City, an 11,000-square-foot portable building made from 24 steel shipping containers.
A host of running events are set to take place during the Street Meet including a 1-kilometre race featuring the top middle distance runners from Jamaica and the best from Boston and the American city of New York.
Top Jamaican schoolboy Waqar DaCosta, winner of the 800 and 1,500 metres at the recent CARIFTA Games, as well as compatriot Layon Folkes will run against the best of Boston and New York City.
