ORLANDO, (Reuters) – Orlando Magic centre Dwight Howard was named defensive player of the year by the NBA yesterday.
The 23-year-old Howard led the NBA in rebounding with 13.8 per game and blocked shots, 2.9 per game, as he helped the Magic to third place in the Eastern Conference.
The three-times All Star finished ahead of Cleveland’s LeBron James and Miami’s Dwyane Wade in the results based on the votes of 111 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the U.S and Canada, the NBA said on their website (http://www.nba.com).
