Host Essequibo was in control of their first round match in this year’s Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/GTM sponsored Under-19 Inter-county three-day match against Demerara at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground yesterday. Asked to take first strike on a low pitch, Essequibo, who had defeated the same opponents in their first round encounter last year, were bowled out for 227 from 87.1 overs but returned to leave Demerara shakily placed on 1-2 at the close.
Opener Herrell Greene (55), Marvin Singh (47), skipper and national Under-19 middle order batsman Royston Alkins (36), Ravindra Parsram (26) and Ravi Boodhoo, 20, all made contributions to Essequibo’s total.
National Under-19 spinner Totaram Bishun, Kishan Shivgobin, along with national Under-17 fast bowler Seon Daniels and West Indies Under-15 left arm orthodox bowler Amir Khan each took two wickets for Demerara.
But Essequibo struck back in the single over they had to bowl at their opponents as fast bowler Rensford Beaton sent back both Trevon Griffith who was bowled off the first delivery of the innings and Khan to leave them on 1-2 going into the second day today.
