Led by a solid all round performance from Anand Bharat, Bhaiya XI secured a five-wicket victory over Banks DIH when action in the Guyana Softball League (GSL) Trophy Stall sponsored nationwide 15 overs-a side competition continued on Sunday.
Playing at the National Insurance Scheme ground, Banks DIH batted first and scored 154-8 from their 15 overs, thanks to Steve Roco who top-scored with 42 against the bowling of Bharat who took 4-20 with support from Seenauth Bissessar who grabbed 3-15. Bharat returned with the bat to stroke an unbeaten 78 taking his team to 155-5 from 13.5 overs in return.
The results of other matches played on Sunday: Superstreet XI defeated Raiders XI by one wicket. Raiders XI batted first and scored 115 all-out in 15 overs with principal scorers Ganesh Narine’s 28 and Trevor Foo’s 21. Bharat Ramdial (3-20) and Neil Persaud 2-20 led the bowling.
During their turn at the wicket Superstreet replied with 120-9 in 14.5 overs with Tameshwar Budai’s 25 and Somnauth Heeralall’s 20 leading the way against the bowling of Rakesh Deochand who grabbed 3-12 from his three overs for Raiders XI.
In Linden, Bad Boys XI defeated West Watooka Sports Club by nine wickets. West Watooka won the toss and opted to take first strike. They were bowled out for a meagre 44 from 8.3 overs. Steve Ramotar’s 4-10 did the damage with the ball for Bad Boys XI who raced to 45-1 in 5.4 overs thanks to Doodie Bridgelall and Wayne Williams who were unbeaten on 19 and 16 respectively.
The Wolf Warriors gained a walkover after the Leonora Youths were a no-show for their match which had been set for the Leonora Primary School ground.
Meanwhile, the knockout stage which will be used to decide which teams advance to the countrywide quarterfinals will soon start.
