National Under-19 wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble has been chosen to lead defending champions Berbice in their campaign to defend their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/GTM sponsored Under-19 Inter-county title.
The Ancient County team which was selected following the Diamond Fire and Life General Insurance Company Under-19 Inter-zone tournament includes Jonathan Foo, Keyron Fraser and Seon Hetmyer, who were all members of the national Under-19 team which competed in Barbados last year.
Also included in the squad is national Under-17 batsman Joemal La Fleur, whose brother Eugene was at the helm when Berbice won the title last year, Harrinarine Chattergoon, Terrence Madramootoo, Alex Amsterdam and the hard hitting Manoj Pooranauth.
Missing from the lineup is national Under-19 fast bowler Keon Joseph who is arguably the quickest young fast bowler in the country to date.
Joseph was advised to take a sabbatical from the game having sustained a groin injury during Guyana’s tour of Trinidad for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB )/Clico Under-17 tournament late last year.
According to vice-president of the Berbice Cricket Board, David Black, Joseph has fully recuperated from the injury but in view of his recent inactivity, he was not selected for the three-day format, but he will definitely be in the lineup for the limited overs segment of the tournament.
The Romesh Munna-managed and Adrian Amsterdam-coached 14-man squad reads: Anthony Bramble, Jonathan Foo, Eon Hooper, Harrinarine Chattergoon, Manoj Pooranauth, Alex Amsterdam, Seon Hetmyer, Joemal La Fleur, Sherwin Mc Pherson, Terrence Madramootoo, Trinson Carmichael, Sahadeo Somai, Clavern Beresford and Keyron Fraser.
Berbice play their first game in the three-day tournament against Essequibo who are at present engaging Demerara at the Anna Regina ground in Essequibo from Sunday, while they play Demerara at the Guyana National Stadium from 5th to 7th May. (Calvin Roberts)
