…as Rose Hall Club, Western Union team up
The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s (RHTYSC) first ever Junior Cricketers Ambassador programme which is being sponsored by Western Union to the tune of $150,000, was launched at the sponsor’s office this week.
Prior to the presentation of the sponsorship packages containing cricket gear and an educational kit to the two beneficiaries, Secretary and CEO of RHTYSC Hilbert Foster outlined the criteria for selection to the programme which will be an annual one on the club’s calendar.
“Under this programme, the cricketer would be required to be disciplined at all times, be a positive role model to their peers, must not be involved in social ills, have an 85% attendance rate and must maintain an end of term average of 50% or above at all times.”
Foster continued, “The player must be willing to promote the Western Union brand, be an ambassador for the company in promotional events and must remain attached to their present club in order for them to be a part of the programme which we intend to support until the player reaches the Under-19 level.”
According to Foster, the programme aims to identify young Under-15 cricketers who have a bright future in the game and assist with gear and educational materials as well as guide them to become better role models to their peers while also playing an important part in the restoration of West Indies cricket.
Marketing Manager of Western Union Natheeah King in handing over the packages to the beneficiaries stated that it was a promise that came through for them.
“When I attended the RHTYSC annual awards ceremony last month, I made this gesture in the form of a promise on behalf of the company and today it is a reality for you. We recognize your ability and decided to assist, hence today’s gesture.
I urge you to build on this and be the best you can be, utilizing all resources that are available to you, as you strive to become better cricketers not only for your clubs but also Guyana and the West Indies on the whole,” King said.
The first two beneficiaries of the programme are RHTYSC’s Loyydel Lewis and Linden Austin of Young Warriors who were each presented with a cricket bat, batting pads and gloves, helmet, uniform, cricket bag and an educational package valued at $10,000.
Berbice Under-15 inter-county captain Shawn Pereira was also the beneficiary of a bat, a pair of batting pads, gloves and an educational package.
