The Guyana Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits Association is calling on the public to assist with enhancement works at the Institute for the Blind.
In a press release the group said it recently treated the inmates at the Institute to a catered lunch and was appalled at the conditions under which they live.
The compound is overrun with grass, the paved entrance to the building needs repairs along with the building and the fence. “It painted a gloomy picture of helplessness and bitter depression,” the release said.
The Association suggested that the Institution needs to be adopted, adding that while it desires to do so it does not have the financial capacity therefore it urges the public to collaborate with it to at least give the compound a regular facelift or to attend to any one of its other needs.
