Every now and then, Hollywood gives us a film which continues its great classic tradition of championing those in all levels of the working class. Working Girl of 1987 does this almost flawlessly because of the skills of Director Mike Nichols and the cohesive acting between Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver. The Sidewalk Café presents this film next Tuesday.
According to a press release, the key to the film is in the authentic details of a working lifestyle in today’s modern world. From its exhilarating start with a camera shot above the packed ferry crossing over to New York City as the Academy Award winning theme song by Carly Simon begins, we will be held by a tight engaging style which is authentic.
The shots of hurrying feet in running shoes which will be exchanged for high heels in the office; the dependence of higher on lower staff; the personal problems outside the workplace; the easy theft of ideas from lower innovative staff; the flexible attitude of risk taking business people who recognise and depend on quality, not status seeking.; the surprising romance between compatible male and females; the silly sophisticated social airs of the power hungry; the positive overriding the negative – all of these make Working Girl a valuable new version of the classic Hollywood film not be missed by those who work for a living.
Admission is free and the film starts at 7 pm.
