Dear Editor,
The President has been quoted as saying that he would be willing to investigate Clico providing there is a similar investigation of Globe Trust. How preposterous. Based on what has been reported in the press, persons have lost their life savings in both of these institutions. The President should not be allowed to play political football with people’s issues of public trust.
The investigation of a failed financial institution should be determined by a set of objective standards irrespective of any individual’s feelings, including those of the President. As such an investigation into the affairs of Clico should be determined by the particular set of circumstances surrounding that institution’s failure.
This decision should be independent of Globe Trust. The President’s unfortunate attempt to link one institution’s investigation with the other is unbefitting a head of state.
Yours faithfully,
John F Haynes
