Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson last Thursday remanded to prison a 47-year-old man, who allegedly stole two radiator fans and several other items from Dr. Max Hanoman’s vehicle while it was parked in a workshop.
Trevor Roberts of Lot 29 Hadfield Street pleaded not guilty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to a simple larceny charge which stated that he stole two radiator fans, nine radiators, a cell phone and several other items, totalling $528,000 in value, property of Dr. Hanoman, between April 11 and 13 at a workshop.
Sean Trotz who had custody of the vehicle for repairs stated that he had parked it in the workshop and left to go home but when he returned the next day he observed that the vehicle was broken into and the radiators and several other items were missing. He said that when he made checks at the back of the building, he discovered that the door lock was broken and the water pump was missing.
Trotz said that he then checked a scrap metal yard in Norton Street, Werk-en-Rust, where he found some of the items including his phone resting on a table. On enquiring he was told that Roberts had taken it there.
He said that several days after the incident he caught Roberts in Dr. Hanoman’s vehicle and apprehended him. He said that Roberts subsequently took him to the scrap metal yard and showed him the rest of the items. He said the owner of the yard was Roberts’ brother and he was also arrested shortly after the police were called in.
The magistrate ordered that Roberts be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on May 6.
