PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Former Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo made headlines in Trinidad and Tobago’s National Premier League Sunday, completing a nine-wicket match haul for Central Sports against Queen’s Park CC.
Nagamootoo and St Lucian Gairy Mathurin scored well for Central Sports but Queen’s Park CC grabbed first innings honours in the drawn two-day match at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Batting first, Queen’s Park had scored 268 on Saturday with Nagamootoo claiming 4-84, to which Central Sports replied with 251 with Denzil James (69), Dion Bennett (63), Mathurin (52) and Nagamootoo (44) leading the failed bid for first innings honours.
Nagamootoo returned to pick up 5-94 and a match haul of 9-178 when Queen’s Park CC posted 236 in their second innings.
Comets recorded the only win of the fifth round when national all-rounder Imran Khan steered them to a 35-run victory over Munroe Road Sports at Pierre Road.
After scoring 69 in Comets’ first innings total of 356-7 declared, Khan captured a match haul of 7-91 to bowl his team to a convincing win against their neighbours.
He took 3-40 in Munroe Road’s reply of 163 and then 4-51 in Munroe’s second innings 158.
Promising T&T Under-19 all-rounder Yannick Ottley stroked an unbeaten 103 at Gilbert Park for Preysal to draw with W Connection Wanderers.
After Barbadian Shamarh Brooks had scored 175 in Wanderers’ first innings 361-8 declared, Preysal slumped to 168 all out but compiled 250-3 in their second innings with Ottley hitting 15 fours and a six in a 154-ball knock that spanned 217 minutes.
Aaron Alfred (81) and Guyanese Azeemul Haniff (33) also made good contributions for Preysal.
Windward Islands medium pacer and Barbadian Alcindo Holder featured in two drawn matches.
At Wilson Road, Peters took a first innings 2-44 and veteran Mukesh Persad 4-64 for Clarke Road against Moosai Sports, who scored 228 and then 200 in their second innings.
Clarke Road made 300-6 declared in their first innings with national batsman Greg Mahabir scoring 109, Sean Siloch 77 and Adrian Barath 54.
After Sherwin Ganga scored 112 in Powergen’s 372 on Saturday against Holder’s 3-37, Merry Boys replied with 266 with Kenton Thompson (71), Aniel Kanhai (52), and Holder (35) getting most runs against spinners Dave Mohammed (4-105) and Rishi Bachan (4-51).
Powergen scored 154-8 declared in their second innings with Holder picking up 2-51.
