Four dogs belonging to Lamaha Park resident, Roxanne Dowden, died on Monday after they were attacked by a swarm of bees.
Dowden told this newspaper yesterday that when she arrived at her Lot 325, Lamaha Park home from work on Monday, she along with her children were greeted by the sight of the dead dogs, sprawled in her yard. She said a neighbour related that the dogs were attacked by the bees during the course of the day and died sometime after lunch on Monday.
The woman said her son was hospitalized sometime ago after he attempted to deter the bees which were attacking the dogs at the time. The woman said the bees may be Africanized bees. She said she and other neighbours would close their doors and windows as soon as darkness steps in since she was informed that the bees are attracted to light bulbs as well as the scent of cologne. Dowden noted that reports were made to the authorities including the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the bees which have been reared in proximity to their homes within the past few years.
The concerned resident said she is worried about the safety of her children and she noted that neighbours were shocked at the sight of the dead dogs on Monday.
Dowden said that she took the day off from work yesterday to meet with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture who told her that a solution is being pursued regarding the eradication of the bees.
