A 41-year-old woman who was struck down by an army vehicle on the McDoom Public Road three weeks ago, died yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to hospital sources, Mahaiswerie Seecharran, of 14 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, died around 3 am yesterday. Stabroek News understands that the woman was on life support since being hospitalized.
According to reports, Seecharran was on her way home from work at Pritipaul Singh Investments when she was struck down by the car, DFB 1482, while crossing the road close to the SOL Service Station at McDoom, on the eastern side of the highway. The car was travelling in a southerly direction at the time of the accident. The victim was rushed to the hospital by the driver of the car and she remained unconscious until her death. She sustained severe head injuries along with cuts and bruises about her body. The car is reportedly owned by a senior officer in the Guyana Defence Force but was being driven by another person at the time of the accident.
When this newspaper visited Seecharran’s home yesterday, her relatives were preparing for a wake. The woman is survived by her husband along with six children.
Seecharran is expected to be buried later in the week.
