Corriverton Queens triumph in historic match
Scottsburg United, Corriverton Queens, and Vishnu Super Store were the successful teams at the Crabwood Creek cricket ground last Sunday at three softball matches.
In the first game spectators witnessed the first ever female softball cricket match at this venue between Crabwood Creek Heroines and the victorious Corriverton Queens who walked away with the Prakash Singh Memorial Trophy.
Batting first the Crabwood Creek Heroines made 84 for 6 off their allotted 15 overs. Varsha Hartman top scored with 39 and was well supported by Youlana Penue with 22 not out. Bowling for the Corriverton Queens I. Sherry took 2 for 24 and M. Natasha took 2 for 8 off their allotted 3 overs. Corriverton Queens then batted and made the winning target in 12 overs, losing 5 wickets with R. Leslein making 26 and B. Celina 22.
In the second game the Vishnu Super Store squad comprising Upper Corentyne businessmen defeated their counterparts from Demerara representing the Floodlight B. Batting first the Vishnu Super Store made 187 for 8 of their allotted 20 overs, with Derick Dan hitting a majestic 85 and Gibran Khan 50 not out.
Pradeep Abdul was the Floodlights B’s most successful bowler with 3 for 22 off 4 overs. Floodlight B was restricted to 156 for 7 with Derick Ramoutar top scoring with 58 and Ricky Deonarain 50. Dennis DeAndrade was the most successful bowler for the Upper Corentyne businessmen with 3 for 30 off 4 overs.
In the third match Scottsburg United defeated the Floodlights A team comfortably and took away the Bier Singh Memorial Trophy. Batting first Scottsburg United raced to 222 off their allotted 20 overs losing 9 wickets. R Joshwa top scored with 82, P. Darshan and Fabian Seeraj made 36 each. Mikesh Singh bowled beautifully taking 3 wickets for 21 runs off 4 overs. The Floodlight A was always struggling after losing Mark Harold, Avinash Deokie and Ravi Deokie in the first over bowled by K. Persaud and was eventually all out for 107. Shervin Murray also took 4 for 17 off his 4 overs bowling for Scottsburg United
The games were a fundraiser event for the Crabwood Creek Sports Ground and all trophies were sponsored by Vishnu Hardyal, Managing Director of Vishnu Super Store in Springlands, and Ganesh Singh and Brothers, saw millers and loggers of Crabwood Creek.
